Five ZJUers named "Innovators Under 35" in China

MIT Technology Review debuted its 2nd China edition of 鈥淚nnovators Under 35鈥 for 2018 yesterday. This year, three faculty members of the University, Dr. DI Dawei of College of Optical Science and Engineering, Dr. LI Tiefeng of  School of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Dr. LU Yingying of College of Chemical and Biological Engineering and two ZJU alumni, LI Dong and SHI Jianping, were recognized as top innovators in China.

DI Dawei

Organic and perovskite light-emitting diodes

Current Position: Principal Investigator, College of Optical Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University; Visiting Researcher, Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge

Award Category: Pioneers

Reasons for Award: For his contributions to the research and development of next-generation high-efficiency, low-energy-consumption display and lighting technologies, including organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and perovskite light-emitting diodes (perovskite LEDs). His works led to efficiency records for low-cost, solution-processed OLEDs and perovskite LEDs.

LI Tiefeng

Soft robots

Current Position: Associate Professor, Department of Engineering Mechanics, School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Zhejiang University

Award Category: Visionaries

Reasons for Award: For his dedication to the multi-physical field coupling mechanics of soft materials and robots. He has made important contribution to the investigation of mechanical behaviors and system design for soft materials and robots.

LU Yingying

New battery technology

Current Position: Principal Investigator, State Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering, College of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Zhejiang University

Award Category: Inventors

Reasons for Award: For her research and education in the field of lithium metal batteries, a type of battery with theoretical energy density several times higher than regular lithium-ion batteries. She has made outstanding contribution to the research of protective mechanism of lithium metal negative electrode and battery safety.
