XiaogangPeng and alumni BangLinChen were recognized as the world's top 100 chemists

Recently Thomson Reuters released the world's top 100 chemists Hall of Fame list over the past decade, with a total of 12 Chinese scientists elected. XiaogangPeng, Professor of Department of Chemistry, Zhejiang University, ranked No. 8, while BanglinChen, who ranked 15, is an alumni of Zhejiang University who graduated in1988.
Thomson Reuters is a leading supplier of professional information, and the world's top 100 chemists Hall of Fame list, 2000-2010, is based on the best 100 chemists list which is determined by the impact factor of the research papers published in the past 10 years. Over the past decade about 100 million chemists were recognized by Thomson Reuters, and their papers published in academic journals were included as well. In the selection of the 100 chemists, Prof. XiaogangPeng, Department of Chemistry, Zhejiang University, is the only full-time teacher in mainland China scholars.
Prof. XiaogangPeng got Bachelor and Doctor鈥檚 degree in 1987 and 1992, respectively; from 1994 to 1996, he engaged in postdoctoral research in University of California at Berkeley in the United States; from 1996 to 1999, he worked in Berkeley Lawrence National Laboratory of University of California; in 1999 he entered in University of Arkansas, achieved a tenured faculty position in 2003, and he was promoted to professor in 2005 and Visiting Professor in the same year. He resigned his post as a full-time faculty from University of Arkansas in 2009, and joined in Zhejiang University, selected into the national鈥 Plan of 1000 qualified people鈥. His group is mainly engaged in colloidal nanocrystals of coordination chemistry, inorganic growth mechanism of nanocrystalline materials, a new generation of solar cells and other aspects. He has published more than 100 papers in the international top level research journals, and he is the leading scientist in the field of nanotechnology research. After returning home, XiaogangPeng began to write the text book 鈥淧hysical Chemistry鈥 for undergraduates and teach them. He has built a laboratory, guiding eight graduate students.
Prof. BanglinChen, graduated from the Department of Chemistry, Zhejiang University, in 1985. Then he stayed at school for further studies, got master's degree of organic chemistry in 1988 and Ph.D. of National University of Singapore in 2000.Dr. BanglinChen was taught by Prof. OmarYaghi (currently teaching at the UCLA Department of Chemistry) during his postdoctoral research. Now, he is the Professor of Department of Chemistry, University of Texas at San Antonio. For a long time, BanglinChen has been engaged in the synthesis and properties of the metal-organic framework of porous functional materials, and the optical transmission and detection basic application in hydrogen and natural gas storage, gas identification and separation, environmental sensing detection and identification of active biological molecules. He is one of earliest researchers who carry out the research in this area in the world. His research results obtained highly reorganization of international counterparts, and he has become a young scholar with important international influence in the field. Since 2006, Prof. BanglinChen has been employed as a part-time professor of Zhejiang University, working with Prof. GuodongQian in State Key Laboratory of Silicon Materials.
